Bentley SuperSports ICR Convertible - Geneva debut
Bentley Supersports ICR Convertible - Click above for high-res image gallery

This question is for all of our Bentley buying readers in attendance today: Do you prefer the Flying B in your driveway to be of the limited-edition variety? If you answered "Harrumph! Of course I do, you peasant!", then we've just gotten up close with your next purchase. It's called the Bentley Continental Supersports Ice Speed Record Convertible and just 100 examples will be produced.

The Bentley ICR Convertible was created to commemorate the achievements of Juha Kankkunen. Last month, Kankkunen took a lightly-modified (tires, aero bits and roll-cage) out to a long stretch of sea-turned-ice. Once there, he fired up the twelve-cylinder engine and set a new ice speed record by hitting 205.48 miles per hour.

Bentley is producing 100 examples of the Supersports ICR and each will boast standout features that make them stand out from non-ICR versions. Just three exterior color choices will be available to compliment the Dark Grey Metallic top; Beluga, Quartzite and Arctica White. Inside, carbon fiber has fitted on the dashboard and center console, while the familiar Breitling dashboard clock gets red accents.

The Bentley Continental Supersports Ice Record Convertible is the most powerful Bentley ever (going by horsepower alone). Its 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine produces 631-horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque – enough to push the hefty two-door from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed 202 miles per hour.

Seat IBX Concept

The Geneva Motor Show is in high gear, and Volkswagen subsidiary SEAT has no intentions of sitting on the sidelines during the massive European show, as the IBX crossover clearly illustrates.

The IBX was penned to show the Spanish brand's future design direction, as well as the company's commitment to environmentally friendly technology. Power for the front-wheel-drive concept comes from a Chevrolet Volt-like mixture of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery pack. SEAT hasn't provided many details about the powertrain, only mentioning that the vehicle could travel 45 kilometers (28 miles) on an electricity alone, with the range-extending gas or diesel engine kicking in once electro-juice is exhausted. SEAT says that the engine could come courtesy of one of the gas or diesel offerings already available in its lineup.

On the design front, this little ute's two-door design carries some coupe-inspired lines while still
aiming for the roominess of a crossover. The overall form is clean and attractive, if a bit nondescript (an impression no doubt enhanced by its relentlessly white paint). Chief designer Luc Donckerwolke says in the company's press release that the IBX represents the footprint of future SEAT design, adding that "this design DNA will have a profound impact on every one of our models." 2012 Hyundai i40

Geneva has been quite a show for big, handsome wagons, from the stonking Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG to the shapely Saab 9-5 Sportcombi, there's been a kinschlepper for every taste and budget. Adding to the variety is Hyundai's new i40 estate, and it, too, is a looker.

Boasting the same sharply rising character line as the Sonata sedan upon which it's based, the i40 nevertheless has a more traditional nose, with a smaller grille and headlamps that look more like those from the Sonata Hybrid. Overall, the front aesthetic lurks somewhere between the Elantra and an embiggened Veloster, but either way, it's all Hyundai and it's an attractive piece.

Hyundai is quick to note that the i40 was developed in Rüsselsheim, Germany, with the European market firmly in mind, and it will be The Continent's first crack at the model range when it hits dealers later this year. A sedan variant will follow, but it's not known if it will look like the North American YF Sonata sedan, or if it will adopt this car's front clip.

Similarly, we know that more than a few executives within Hyundai of America want to see a two-box Sonata come to the States, but it isn't yet clear if a business case has been made for the shapely load-lugger. Here's hoping...

BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept

BMW has pulled the wraps off of its latest concept vehicle, which is in part a research tool for the automaker as it looks towards the future of mobile networking. The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept is a two-passenger roadster seeking to push new boundaries in the realm of automotive technology.

The topless concept borrows much of its design from the Vision EfficientDynamics concept that's on the road to production, but this showcar focuses on three areas; comfort, safety and infotainment. Each category provides feedback and data to the driver by means of a light display spread throughout the vehicle.

In the cabin, the driver will be able to monitor a multitude of information thanks to a three-dimensional head-up display. The HUD incorporates augmented reality to display point-of-interest icons and road information into the driver's field of vision. The display is fully customizable, and the driver can fine-tune the amount of information and how it's displayed in front of him or her. Interestingly enough, BMW has provided no information about what powers this concept – either in reality or merely conceptually.

The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept is the automaker's view of where automotive information technology is heading. By providing the driver with as much or as little information as he or she desires, the driver is able to make a closer connection with the vehicle. It may be merely a study at this point, but it's a glimpse at a future where the driver is still in control... and that's something we can stand behind.

Be sure to check out the car in the gallery below, and click past the jump for b-roll footage of the BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept.

Porsche Boxster S Black Edition
Porsche Boxster S Black Edition – Click above for high-res image gallery

As part of Porsche's spread here at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the German automaker is showing both of its new Black Edition cars – murdered-out versions of both the 911 and Boxster. But Porsche has done more than simply paint the cars black. Both models get a host of new standard equipment, and in the case of the Boxster, a slight power upgrade over its standard S variant.

The 911's 3.6-liter flat-six continues to put down 345 horsepower, but the Boxster gets a mind-blowing 10-hp bump over the standard 310-hp 3.4-liter powerplant. Both cars can be had with either manual or PDK dual-clutch transmissions, and fuel economy (19/26 for the Boxster and 19/27 for the 911) is surprisingly good for cars that are presumably this good to drive.

The Boxster S Black Edition will set you back $65,200, while the 911 commands $81,300, or $91,300 if you want the wind-in-your-hair Cabriolet experience. See both cars for yourself in the high-res galleries of live shots below.

2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi
2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi - Click above for high-res image gallery

We're glad to see that the Saab 9-5 SportCombi is looking good once again. During the General Motors-influenced mid-2000s, the 9-5 took on a bit of a weird shape (those chrome-ringed Dame Edna headlamps were just awful), and thus, the subsequent wagon variant wasn't nearly as special as the generation that debuted in the late-1990s. That all changes now, as Saab has officially pulled the wraps off of the SportCombi of the new 9-5, and might we say, hubba hubba.

Aside from the addition of some rear windows and some sheetmetal, nothing significant has changed in the 9-5's transition from a sedan to a proper station wagon. Both the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and 2.8-liter turbo-six will still be on hand, with the larger engine paired to the automaker's XWD all-wheel-drive system. Look for production to start later this year.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe – Click above for high-res image gallery

The current Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe may be too large to rightfully compete with the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A5, but the Silver Arrow is rectifying that with the new-for-2012 C-Class Coupe – a revival of the old CLK, if you will.

Aside from the slightly lower roofline and the removal of two doors, the C Coupe is exactly like its newly redesigned sedan brethren. There are three powertrains on tap, including a new 201-horsepower 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four in the C250 and the direct-injected, 304-hp V6 in the range-topping C350. Well, range-topping for now – the sure-to-be-badass C63 AMG Coupe is set to debut in the very near future. Yeah, we're salivating.

Still, the more pedestrian C-Class Coupe will make up the vast majority of sales, and we're glad to see a modern-day CLK in production once again. Scroll through our gallery of high-res shots below and take it all in, then hop the jump for a trailer of Benz's new 'Drive and Seek' mini-movie starring the new E-Coupe and some rather attractive bank robbing women...

Toyota Prius+
2012 Toyota Prius+ – Click above for high-res image gallery

As the second size extension of the Toyota Prius family tree, the 2012 Prius+ adds a healthy dose of roominess to the well-known fuel-sipping hybrid equation, and it's making its world debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. There's seating for seven occupants inside, but the multi-purpose vehicle shares a clear design language with Toyota's standard-bearing Prius. What's more, it manages a low 0.29 drag coefficient thanks to its extended roofline and carefully designed front fascia.

Equally as notable is the battery. This is the first lithium-ion battery pack to be incorporated within a non-plug-in Toyota full hybrid. Toyota has found enough room underneath the center console between the driver and the front passenger to fit the battery, which helps maximize interior space for occupants and their cargo.

As you would expect from a Prius, there are three drive modes: A zero-emission EV mode that relies on electric motor power alone, an ECO mode that maximizes efficiency and fuel economy and finally a somewhat ambitiously named POWER mode that is said to boost overall performance.

Toyota is saying that the Prius+ will be on sale in Europe in the first half of 2012, but it's coming to the U.S. around the same time in the form of the Prius V, which we previously saw at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Novitec Rosso 458 Italia
Novitec Rosso 458 Italia - Click above for high-res image gallery

Novitec Rosso has thing for the Prancing Horse. It routinely turns its wrenches on the cars of the Ferrari stable and shows them a new level of power. At this week's 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Novitec has focused ts attention on the Ferrari 458 Italia, and the results are stunning.

The "standard" Ferrari 458 Italia produces 562 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque from its mid-mounted 4.5-liter V8. Novitec utilizes new engine mapping, and a different exhaust manifold and exhaust system to raise output to 609 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The tuning company has also managed to raise the redline from 9,000 to 9,100 rpm, which doesn't sound like much but could help earn a few more ticks at the top end of the speedo.

Besides the engine work, Novitec has upgraded the 458's suspension, lightened the wheels and added carbon fiber to various locations all over the car. The resulting Novitec Rosso 458 is lighter, louder and faster than your run-of-the-mill Italia. It's also pretty damn good looking to boot.

Pagani Huayra at 2011 Geneva Motor Show
Pagani Huayra - Click above for high-res image gallery

Let's be honest. After months, if not years of anticipation, we were all a little disappointed at the results when Pagani finally unveiled its new Huayra. But you know what? After seeing it up close and personal here on the floor of the Geneva Motor Show – in red no less, which is invariably more suitable to an Italian exotic than beige champagne metallic – we're convinced afresh that Horacio Pagani and company make some of the most desirable machinery known to man.

That gaping maw, for example, that everyone felt detracted from an otherwise sleek shape? Hardly noticable in person, less evident in the more vibrant hue, and besides, out on the road you'll likely see more of the sculpted tail disappearing rapidly over the horizon than you will of the nose anyway. But don't take our word for it. Have a look through our ace photographer's lens in the high-resolution image gallery below.

Suzuki Swift S-Concept - Geneva debut
Suzuki Swift S-Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Suzuki Swift is a genuinely good car, standing as something of an exception in Suzuki's lineup until recent additions like the SX4 and Kizashi came along. But calling it "swift" might be a bit of wishful thinking, if not a huge exaggeration. Enter the Swift S-Concept, which Suzuki has just presented at the Geneva Motor Show.

Few details have been released as to what has gone into the S-Concept and where it's going, but anyone can tell straight off the bat that it's a Swift taken to the extreme. In fact, it looks as close to an S2000-spec racer for the street as we've seen in some time, sporting 18-inch wheels, aerodynamic upgrades, Recaro racing buckets... the works.

The result looks good. Seriously good. Which is sadly probably more than we can say for its production prospects. But for the company behind such an eclipsing Pikes Peak campaign, with the right mechanical upgrades to match the sporting pretensions of its own styling, a hotter Swift could be just the ticket to inject some much-needed excitement into its range.

BMW ActiveE at 2011 Geneva Motor Show
BMW ActiveE - Click above for high-res image gallery

BMW showed us the ActiveE Concept back at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. Now the automaker is using the Geneva Motor Show floor to roll out the latest version of its electrified 1-Series. The BMW ActiveE, following in the footsteps of the Mini E before it, will begin rolling out to select markets in the Fall of 2011.

Mini utilized a fleet of 600 electric Coopers for field tests, but BMW is upping the ante by producing 1,000 vehicles. The ActiveE will make its North American debut at the New York Auto Show in April. After that, it will roll its way into the driveways and garages of residents in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, New York, Boston and parts of Connecticut.

Powering the BMW ActiveE are a plethora of liquid-cooled SB LiMotive batteries. They provide enough juice to generate 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The ActiveE uses that energy to run from 0-60 miles per hour in about nine seconds and the juiced-up 1-Series has a range of 100 miles. Check it out in the galleries below and read more about the car in BMW's official release after the jump.

American Truckers does the Smokey and the Bandit beer run – Click above to watch video after the jump

SPEED is looking to revamp its program lineup as it enters its 15th year on the air. One of the programs that's set to hit televisions is called American Truckers. Hosted by Rob Mariani, the series looks at iconic rigs, amazing routes and the people who make up the industry. To kick off the series, the crew of American Truckers has decided to get down to business and re-create a route with which most of your are familiar: the epic 1,800-mile beer run from Smokey and the Bandit.

The first and most important part of the journey (besides the beer, of course) is making sure they have the right vehicles. Bud Brutsman, producer of American Truckers, Rides, Overhaulin' (the list goes on...), and his crew acquired a 1974 Kenworth W900 Snowman tribute truck. Year One stepped up to the plate and handed over the keys to a resto-mod 1978 Pontiac Trans-Am. The Bandit car is packing a 605-horsepower LS7 engine with a five-speed transmission, Baer six-piston calipers on 14-inch front and rear rotors and a roll-cage with a five-point racing harness.

Vehicles in order, the team set out on their journey from Atlanta with their sights set on Texarkana. How'd they fare?

Hamann Hawk
Hamann Hawk - Click above for high-res image gallery

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is certainly enjoying an interesting run at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. It's had its ups and downs... and right now, it's going through another low point courtesy of Hamann.

To be fair, the styling of the Hamann Hawk is almost kind of cool. But the matte pink pearl paint job does this car no favors. Hamann calls the color Everose Gold, but we're going with Barbie's First Supercar – it's like Paris Hilton trying to act tough.

What's certainly no act, however, is the work done under the hood. The Mercedes-Benz 6.2-liter V8 in the SLS, which normally produces 563 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, has been pushed to produce 636 hp and 502 lb-ft. This was accomplished through the use of upgraded manifolds, a new exhaust and adjustments to the engine mapping. Those changes help push the Hamann Hawk from 0-62 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds. Hold the go-pedal down and you'll eventually hit 199 miles per hour.

Of course, you'll still be driving something that 16-year-old girls would find oddly endearing, like a pair of pajama pants with pink skulls on it. Hamann, please paint this thing black, lose the garish grille emblem, and then let us disappear with your gas card for a few days.

Ruf Rt-12R
Ruf Rt 12 R - Click above for high-res image gallery

Porsche makes some amazingly capable and exciting machines. The German speedmeisters at Ruf are fans of those cars, but they like to take them, lock them in their insane asylum factory and release them back into the world as roadgoing rocketships. The company's latest creation, unveiled on the 2011 Geneva Motor Show floor, is the Ruf Rt 12 R.

Based on the (quite pedestrian by comparison) Porsche 911 Turbo, the Ruf Rt 12 R begins life with the stock 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine. That unit is good for 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque (516 lb-ft with the overboost function). After Ruf gets its mitts on the powerplant, output swells to 730 hp and 693 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to Porsche's six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel-drive system. And if you're a rich lunatic, you can opt for rear-wheel drive.

Ruf also works its magic on the body of the Rt 12 R. Carbon fiber is applied to the front fenders, hood, luggage cover, seats and is available optionally on the roof. The side and rear windows are plastic instead of glass to further aid in the quest for lightness. This weight reduction, along with the massive increase in power, has helped Ruf claim an impressive 230 mph top speed for the Rt 12 R.

1908 Fiat SB4 Eldridge
1908 Fiat SB4 Eldridge "Mephistoles" – Click above for high-res image gallery

Way in the back of the Fiat booth at this year's Geneva Motor Show, behind all of the shiny modern machinery with their tiny, fuel-sipping engines, sat a car that looks like one of those wood-carved models you see at every knick-knack store. Curious though it was, we knew right off the bat there is something far more significant to this car than met the eye. And indeed there is.

Nicknamed "Mephistoles" by the French public in the 1920s, this 1908 Fiat SB4 racer was, at the time, the fastest car in the world. Sir Ernest Eldridge bought it on the cheap after it crashed in a race at Brooklands in the UK, thereafter setting about turning it into a land speed record car. To get there, Sir Ernest and company replaced the engine with a 22-liter(!) inline six-cylinder aircraft engine that delivered 320 horsepower to the rear wheels via chain drive – a combination (hardly) kept in check by a single brake on the rear differential.

Mephistoles set a top speed of 143.26 miles per hour over a flying kilometer in Arpajob, France in 1924, but was later disqualified because the regulations stipulated the necessity of a reverse gear, which the Fiat lacked. Sir Ernest developed a system and came back, regulations satisfied, just days later to set a new record of 146 mph... the last such record achieved on a public road. To this day, according to the lore, nobody knows how Eldridge got the thing to go in reverse, but after over three years of restoration, Fiat is proudly exhibiting Mephistoles in Geneva, and we snapped a few photos to help you ponder the mystery and majesty for yourself.

Peugeot 504
1977 Peugeot 504 - Click above for high-res image gallery

The auction on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's 1977 Peugeot 504 officially closed earlier this week with winning bid of $2.5 million. The funds are set to be used to build housing for low-income families. According to MSNBC, Iran's Wellfare Organization, which organized the auction, hasn't released the name of the Pug's new owner, though there is some indication that the vehicle will be displayed in a museum in the near future. Locally, the vehicle would likely carry a price tag of around $2,000 without its unique ownership history. Ahmadinejad was frequently seen using the vehicle while he was Mayor of Tehran, but the Iranian President has favored other transportation since he took office in 2005.

According to MSNBC, Ahmadinejad campaigned on the promise to house every Iranian, and the charity auction is an attempt to make good on that pledge. Interestingly enough, outside of Iran, the most visitors to the auction's website came from right here in the good ol' USA.

New York City hybrid taxi

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has fought long and hard to uphold a local law requiring all city cab companies to replace their gas-guzzling Ford Crown Victoria sedans with more efficient livery vehicles. A noble goal, no doubt, but the Supreme Court is having none of it.

The New York Post reports that the highest court in the land refused to hear the case after four years of battles in the lower courts, giving the victory to the Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade. The court ruled that federal agencies have the sole right to regulate emissions and efficiency, not the mayor of one town – even if it is the City That Never Sleeps.

When the Supreme Court swings its gavel, there usually isn't another shot, but that likely won't stop Mayor Bloomberg from lobbying Congress to change the rules. The mayor said that local governments are the ones dealing with climate change and energy policy, adding "the federal government seems unable to address those issues."

While the city of New York appears to have lost the efficiency war, the Big Apple can still feel good about the fact that some 4,400 of the 13,237 cabs on its streets are hybrids. And if gas prices continue to jump, we're thinking many of the other 8,000 cabs will follow suit.

Cadillac XTS Platinum

Post by: Automotive
A new study re-imagine the luxury sedan, showing the development of philosophy Cadillac Art and Science
- Designed from the inside out, revealing a new concept for the interface between driver and car electronics
- Plug-in hybrid system fits with the 3.6L V-6 and all-wheel drive for dynamic and efficient performance

DETROIT - Cadillac XTS Platinum concept launched at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, proposing a new paradigm for luxury sedans in the future. Displaying the concept emerged Cadillac's top-of-the-line Platinum series models, emphasizing the new expression of luxury and technology features, including plug-in hybrid propulsion systems.

Platinum XTS concept designed from the inside out, re-imagined as a luxury sedan personal headquarters, built for efficiency, luxury and connectivity. The concept introduces a new approach to car repair electronic form and function of the car entertainment, navigation and information systems.

"The concept of the XTS Platinum is the next expression of Cadillac's Art and Science of execution philosophy, reflects our desire to provide the latest innovations in the most cunning way," said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager. "We see this concept as a personal base of automotive, using sophisticated technology to enable a new level of connectivity and luxury."

Draft platinum XTS uses Cadillac's 3.6L V-6 Gas Direct Injection engine, paired with a plug-in hybrid system. Plug-in technology allows the battery to fully charge from a standard electrical outlet, allowing a pure electric propulsion in most driving situations, especially where the commutes of urban fuel efficiency may be doubled from conventional hybrids.

Traditional luxury sedan is defined by elegant interiors and Cadillac's XTS Platinum concept encourages that formula into the future. This provides a new approach that combines luxury design expertise with customer-driven innovation. Like the Platinum Edition of this product, such as the Escalade Platinum and Platinum STS and DTS sedans, the interior is based on the cut-and hand-sewn materials. The concept of the XTS Platinum inject more contemporary forms and themes in interior design, including the use of Organic Light-emitting diode (O-LED) in the gauge display, and a traditional screen.

Preview the new integration of philosophical concepts to guide development of models of the future in connection with the in-car electronics. The aim is to advance the Cadillac's intuitive in car electronic systems, characterized by a deployable touch screen navigation system that has been highly recognized brand in the CTS and SRX product line. Concept XTS Platinum previews this strategy through the minimization of the traditional buttons and switches. Designers mixed display screen into a flowing instrument panel. They call it a "dead front" design, because it appears the black panel to the car is turned on and illuminate the screen. Instrument panel itself reflects another focus XTS Platinum - without compromising luxury and attention to detail on the interior.

"The Platinum difference in means fully Cadillac luxury and technology and we have tried to reach further with this concept," said Clay Dean, Cadillac design director. "Just as technology pushing the boundaries of what the Cadillac to offer, so do the details that make the experience concept XTS Platinum uncompromising."

The interior took inspiration from nature, especially the complicated layers of petals that combine to form the orchids. Cadillac designers translated into many layers and interior details. Light cream is the main color of the cabin and in contrast to the darker elements, such as the steering wheel and an overhead console that runs the length of the motive interior roof. The console is made of wood so rich and house lighting features.

Premium leather upholstery, including a new style of automotive suede, with laser-etched patterns. Patterned material to decorate the center of the seat and door trim accents. Thinking detailed stitching is used throughout the interior, including seats, instrument panels and door panels. Passengers in the rear compartment of the broad concept XTS Platinum also has access to a car connectivity features, along with various infotainment options.

"We never lose the fact that a large luxury sedan to spacious and accommodating," said Dean. "Passengers will find a generous headroom, legroom and knee room, along with technological elements that make the drive more productive."

The proportion of new

Concept XTS Platinum has a unique proportion that goes beyond the traditional aesthetics and bringing the brand luxury sedan designs of Arts and Sciences in a more progressive way. The proportion of unique support "inside out" design priorities, and creates a sleek profile that complements the car and advanced technology elements necessary aerodynamics.

"The XTS Platinum artfully convey the design concept of the focus on functionality through technology," said Dean. 'This is the opposite of the conventional three-box sedan, showing the evolution of the current Cadillac design language. "

A short sweep peaked profile, high deck lid that meet the concept Platinum XTS's aerodynamic needs - including the rear spoiler mounted on the deck lid, incorporating the center high-mounted stop lamp. High, sloping beltline forward movement of vehicles, suggest movement, while the outer fender flares wrapped tightly around 20-inch wheels and tires. Wheel-to-body proportions carefully designed to visually communicate the car all-wheel-drive chassis.

Like the interior, exterior elements precisely designed and elegantly detailed. Sweep billet aluminum trim is used selectively and 20-inch, 11-spoke wheel features a brushed aluminum face with bright accents in the insert fingers. Wheels wrapped with Bridgestone tires specifically tailored for XTS Platinum Concepts.

Signature important element to Cadillac's Art and Science design language including headlamp and vertical taillamps with integrated light pipes and lighting components rich in detail. Headlamps feature bright light emitting diode lighting technology that requires less energy, as well as Cadillac's Adaptive Forward Lighting technology, which turns the headlights with the front wheels a greater visibility in turns.

Directed and efficient

The concept of the XTS Platinum's plug-in hybrid electric propulsion system (PHEV) is based on the experience has been obtained with the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Escalade Hybrid and Platinum flagship model. Plug-in electric cars to improve driving skills only, offers additional battery energy capacity and enables to recharge from an external electrical standards. The main benefits of external plug-in recharging is that in many situations - such as overnight parking - the battery can fully recharge in about five hours, while the car is not used. Plug-in system operating at maximum efficiency when operating on battery power drawn from the electric grid. In some conditions, such as urban commutes, drivers can experience double the efficiency of conventional hybrid.

At higher speeds or when conditions demand it, such as rapid acceleration, a combination of engine and engine power or electric power only, pushing the vehicle. The combination of Direct Injection V-6 engine and PHEV system displays fully variable drive electric driving experience that excited. The system provides approximately 350 horsepower (260 kW) and 295 lb.-ft. torque (400 Nm).

Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) Draft XTS allows Platinum to provide superior road-holding performance luxury cars while maintaining composure in the "normal" driving conditions. Shocks controlled by using magneto-rheological advanced technology, rather than mechanical valves, to further accelerate the response time and precision.

MRC uses electronic sensors on all four wheels literally "read the road" every millisecond, making constant adjustments to damping to create almost instantaneous and extremely precise control of body movements.

Forward, especially calibrated all-wheel-drive system ensures optimal traction in wet and slippery conditions, and helps provide maximum traction when cornering. Four-wheel disc brakes, with four-channel ABS, and StabiliTrak stability control with traction control function drivetrain complete details.

"The XTS Platinum concept is designed to provide an interesting driving experience without sacrificing the functional features, space and comfort customers seek in a luxury car," said Nesbitt. "This is a new vision of luxury that uses advanced technology to provide functionality in an efficient and rewardingly."

SUV: Lamborghini LM002

Last month the internet was on fire after Auto Express started to spread a rumor about the revival of the Lamborghini LM002. However, as we noted in our article, the story sounded a bit off. For a proper Lambo SUV, the Audi Q5 platform would be too small, a V8 engine not noble enough and the £100,000 (US $156,080) price tag a tad low. That’s why we didn’t put much credence in the rumor.

It turns out we were right to take it with a grain of salt as Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, told British magazine Autocar that the Italian maker would give the green light to a four-door saloon inspired by the Estoque concept car.

“We have opportunities outside the supercar business, and we showed that with Estoque,” said Winkelmann. “It had a more enthusiastic response than we had expected. It was the right time to see if the brand could go outside of supercars. Even now, people are still emailing me about us making the Estoque”.

Mr. Winkelmann admitted that Lamborghini had only two choices for the third car of its lineup: a four-seat four-door and an SUV. But the latter doesn’t exist in the makers price segment and “it’s not a real luxury car”.

If something like the Estoque is going to be produced, the famous Italian automaker expects to attract new customers to the brand by being a more practical car. “If we are going to offer a third model, it could be a ‘first’ car, bringing people to our brand” Winkelmann concluded.

Knowing that we live in a world of reciprocity and “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours”, we’re not at all surprised by the early reveal of Chrysler’s redesign 2012 model year 300 Sedan, courtesy of Motor Trend. For the record, the firm’s new model was supposed to break cover at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

In any case and until the higher-ups over at the Chrysler Group decide that the rest of the world is worthy enough of some pictures, you can gaze at MT’s gallery by clicking the link here. Check them out and tell us what you think about the 300′s new styling direction in the comments below.

Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid

The automaker best known for its safety technologies is forging a new path its leadership of the green revolution with the new Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid. Revealed here at the Geneva Motor Show, the hybrid wagon is the first in its segment to combine a diesel engine with a plug-in rechargeable electric powertrain.

As we reported in the run-up to the show, the V60 Plug-In Hybrid offers its drivers a variety of propulsion options, alternating between two motors to adapt to conditions at the push of a button.

Outwardly the hybrid version looks pretty much the same as the already svelte sport-wagon we know, save for some new wheels and a charging port on the front-right fender. See for yourself in the high-res gallery of live images from the show floor below and check out the full tech details in the release after the jump.

The fuel economy wars have heated up in the hotly contested C-Segment. The latest salvo from Ford comes in the form of the Focus SE SFE (Super Fuel Economy) capable of 40 miles of highway travel on a single gallon of petrol. That ties the similarly new 2011 2011 Hyundai Elantra (40 mpg) and it's close to the 42 mpg from the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze ECO. But like its competitor from Chevrolet, most Focus models won't be able to keep pace with the big four-oh.

According to Kicking Tires, the rest of the Focus lineup will return a slightly less exciting 38 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg around town (31 mpg combined) when equipped with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The manual transmission Focus will hit 36 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in city driving (30 mpg combined). Not best-in-class, but not too shabby, either.

It would have been a big win for the Focus if it could best the Elantra at the pump. On the other hand, the Focus does pack 12 more horsepower than the Hyundai and we're thinking it looks every bit as good. It's a good time to be in the market for a compact car.

car with boot

Walking out to find a boot on your car is about the third worst thing that can happen to your parked vehicle. (One and two would have to be finding out your car was towed or broken into.) Jessica Davey of Southern England walked out to find her Renault Clio wearing the extra metal on one of its wheels and was afraid that the tow company was next to pay her a visit. She decided to stay with the car and fend off any tow trucks... for the next 30 hours.

According to reports, the reason she got the boot in the first place is that her parking permit was not displayed on her windshield. It was, however, sitting in plain sight on the dashboard but not follow the rules to a T is apparently grounds for a bootin' in her neck of the woods.

Davey was worried that the cost to retrieve her car, should it be towed, would be more than the vehicle was actually worth. Her boyfriend tried removing the boot and was quickly arrested, but later released with no charges filed.

The parking enforcement officer, Anthony Brindley, stuck around to make sure the boot stayed put. Brindley said he could remove the boot if Davey paid the £110 ($180 USD) fee. She continued to stick to her guns and the seat of her Clio. Brindley also hung tough, but 30 hours later he moved on. That's when Jessica Davey set to work and removed the boot herself.

In the end, Jessica Davey and her Renault Clio persevered and tasted freedom. Davey did miss a day of work because of the matter, and we're curious how much that cost her.

Pirelli 2011 Formula 1 Tire Display in Geneva

To the uninitiated, the choice of tires in motor racing can look about as insignificant as what refreshments they're serving in the grandstands. But those in the know are all too aware of the enormous effect the right – or wrong – rubber can have on a race's outcome. So in the world of Formula One racing, the switch from Bridgestone to Pirelli as the official tire supplier is pretty big news.

The Italian rubber company is suitably proud of its selection, and to show off its wares, Pirelli brought a trio of contemporary grand prix racers – a Red Bull, a McLaren and a Ferrari, no less – to the Geneva Motor Show, wearing their new boots. These look to be last year's cars wearing this year's tires, but that's to be expected as the front-running teams in question frantically prepare their cars for the new season. Take a closer look in our high-res image gallery below.

Lucas Ordonez is a 25-year-old Spaniard who began competing in Nissan and Playstation's GT Academy when it first got started back in 2008. Of the initial 25,000 participants, Lucas weeded himself out as the quickest and was given the chance to take his skills from Gran Turismo to a real race track. Three years on, Lucas is preparing himself to take on a full LeMans Cup schedule in 2011.

Lucas' season begins in March, behind the wheel of a Signatech Nissan LMP2 machine at the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida. From there, it's on to the holy grail, the 24 Hours of LeMans, followed by five more LeMans Cup races across the globe.

There are likely to be more people like Lucas coming down the pike: the European GT Academy will start its fourth installment on March 4, and Nissan and Gran Turismo recently started the American version. More details can be found in the official release after the jump. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

Walter Rohrl spins a Porsche 904
Walter Röhrl spins a Porsche 904 – Click above to watch video

We're currently bombing around Mallorca, Spain on the launch of the Porsche Cayman R, and to make up for the massive monsoon that's coated the roads and nearly made a glorified go-kart track undrivable, our gracious hosts from Stuttgart brought out a legend. Actually, two of them.

None other than Walter Röhrl was flown in to show us "professionals" how a proper racing driver does it, and in between laps in the hotter, lightweight Cayman, the German racing legend took us for spin in something far more exotic.

According to Porsche, if there's a vintage, racing equivalent of the Cayman R, it's the historic Porsche 904, and this 911-powered 1965 example is one of only 20 ever made and came right from the personal garage of one of Ferdinand Porsche's progeny. This particularly immaculate 904 is probably worth over $1 million, but that didn't matter to Röhrl, who flung the featherweight (and seatbelt-less) coupe around the track with the kind of sideways fervor we'd expect from a World Rally Champion. Oh, and when we said "spin" we meant it. Follow the jump for the in-car footage, and excuse our incessant cackling – we're still trying to pry the grin off our face.

2012 GTA Spano
2011 GTA Spano – Click above for high-res image gallery

GTA Motor has just rolled out its brand-new supercar, the V10-powered, 820-horsepower Spano here at the Geneva Motor Show. The car has a carbon fiber-kevlar composite and aluminum chassis, and will be limited to a run of 99 examples worldwide.

With all that power and very little weight, the Spano makes it to 60 mph in under three seconds, and GTA says it will top out at 217 mph. The car carries massive 380 mm (nearly 15-inch) six-piston caliper AP Racing disc brakes with ABS, and the brakes sap off speed with the help of a ridiculous wide set of Pirelli PZero Rosso 330s (19- and 20-inches wide, respectively).

The car is designed with performance in mind, but it's not a totally stripped-out track-day car, keeping things civilized with a panoramic roof and a carbon fiber luggage compartment complete with fitted bags.

IED Abarth Scorpion
IED Abarth Scorp-Ion – Click above for high-res image gallery

Every division in the sprawling Fiat empire had something new to unveil at the Geneva Motor Show this year. Starting at the top, Ferrari presented the new FF. Maserati had the GranCabrio Sport, Alfa Romeo wowed with the 4C Concept, Lancia debuted the new Ypsilon and the Fiat brand itself presented two new variations on the 500 theme with the Gucci edition and the stunning Zagato coupe. Even its transatlantic partners in Auburn Hills were represented. The only one that was left out, really, was the Abarth sub-brand. Or was it?

The marque's own show stand showcased the existing range (plus a new junior formula racing program), but there was a new Abarth on display across the hall at the IED booth. Previously, the students at the Istituto Europeo di Design gave us the dramatic Maserati Chicane concept, and this year they teamed up with Abarth for the Scorp-Ion. Emphasizing the "ion" in the name, the design study calls for an all-electric drivetrain, decentralized to each wheel and leaving extra space for baggage and two seats. The styling, meanwhile, is pure F-Zero from our childhood Super Nintendo days.

Check it out for yourself in our gallery of live shots from the show floor below and find the full details in the press release after the jump.

Erwin Wurm 'Fat Car'

There's no easy way to say this, America: You're getting fatter and older every year. Over a quarter of the population is obese, and the rate of obesity increases 0.5 percent each year. The amount of folks aged 65 and up currently stands at 40 million, but that number will increase to nearly 90 million by 2050. What does any of this have to do with automobiles? A lot – if you're a safety engineer.

The systems that help keep us safe during a crash will need to be redesigned to cope with our ever-increasing mass and aging bodies. Seatbelts and airbags are being developed that can work with the larger, older occupants of future vehicles. Adaptive airbags and load-limited seatbelts will better conform to the person sitting in the seat.

As we travel down the road to our Wall-E style future, it's comforting to know that today's engineers are working to protect tomorrow's driving population. The solution to our weight problem is, of course, to battle the ever-expanding waistlines found throughout our nation. That, however, is easier said than done. Let's just hope that the four-wheeled products that result don't resemble sculptor Erwin Wurm's 'fat car' series, as shown above.

Now if you'll excuse us, a 20-piece Chicken McNugget meal is calling from the kitchen. Oof, that's an awfully far walk for our aging bones, though.

2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

The Camaro coupe and convertible are sure to get plenty of attention at Geneva. Available in V8 form when it goes on sale at selected Chevrolets dealers in September, Camaro's low-slung stance and front to rear body proportions remain true to the original concept, a design that acknowledges its legendary past without appearing retro.

Under the hood, Camaro's 432 hp, 6.2-liter V8 generates 569 Nm of torque to give the new Camaro the muscle to match its looks. With the six-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 405 hp/556 Nm and includes GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management system, enabling it to cruise on only four cylinders during light load conditions.

Camaro's interior is characterized by the perfect balance between heritage and modernity, while detailing, such as the large, chrome-trimmed controls, low-gloss surfaces and premium fabric.

Camaro's chassis features electronic stability control (GM's StabiliTrak system) and traction control as standard equipment while an adjustable "Sport" mode is fitted for performance driving, such as on track days. A Launch Control feature will ensure quick and safe take-offs with large, ventilated disks (355/365 mm front/rear), complete with four-piston aluminum Brembo calipers for impressive braking performance.

A comprehensive range of safety features includes dual-stage front airbags, front seat- mounted thorax side airbags and head curtain airbags for front and rear occupants.

The coupe's convertible sibling was designed from the outset to be built in both coupe and convertible form – features the latest power-folding top which takes only 20 seconds to retract. Built in partnership with the same manufacturer as the Corvette convertible, it folds into a simple "Z" pattern and latches with a single, convenient handle located at the center of the windshield header. It is made of thick, durable canvas and features acoustical headliner material that provides a quiet ride when the top is up. It also incorporates a glass rear window and rear window defogger.

Chevrolet's engineers are keen to point out that the convertible is no boulevard cruiser but can match the coupé for ride and handling, thanks to four strategic reinforcements which enhance the already stiff body structure; these include a tower-to-tower brace under the hood, transmission support reinforcement brace, underbody tunnel brace and front and rear underbody "V" braces.

The new twelve-cylinder with 6.5 liters’ displacement and 515 kW / 700 hp brings together the ultimate in high-revving pleasure with astonishing low-end torque. Thanks to a dry weight of only 1,575 kilograms (3,472 lb), which is extremely low for this class of vehicle, the weight-to-power ratio stands at only 2.25 kilograms per hp (4.96 lb/hp). Even the fantastic 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration figure of just 2.9 seconds and the top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) do not fully describe the Aventador’s extreme performance. And yet, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are down by around 20 percent compared with its predecessor, despite the considerable increase in power (+8%).

The ISR transmission is unique among road-going vehicles, guaranteeing the fastest shifting time (only 50 milliseconds) and a highly emotional shift feel, while the lightweight chassis with pushrod suspension delivers absolute handling precision and competition-level performance. The expressively-designed interior offers hi-tech features ranging from the TFT cockpit display with Drive Select Mode system. The Aventador will be built to the very highest quality standards in an all-new production facility in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

2012 Mercedes Benz C63

The much awaited 2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG wasn't supposed to expose until the Geneva Motor Show this March, but a few photos have leaked out. The C63 gets a set of SL-inspired headlamps with ornate light-piping and LED DRLs mounted in the revised fascia. LED's make their way to the tail lamps, while redesigned 18-inch wheels fill the wheel wells and frame upgraded brakes.

It has a 6.2-liter V8 and output remains at 451 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The Development Package will reportedly stick around for 2012, raising output to 481 hp and nixing the 155 mph limiter to allow the C63 to top out at 174 mph. After its launch in Geneva, the revised C-Class will be available for sale with the AMG-fettled version getting a very slight bump in price.

noble m600

Since 2008, we have been speaking about the Noble M600. It was officially released in 2009 and the crew at Top Gear UK got to test one before 2010. After that there was no news about it but Noble has finally announced the first M600 off the factory production line. This super car sports a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter Yamaha V8 with three power levels for road, track and race. An Adaptable Performance Control switch will vary the output between each level, letting the engine produce the horse power as needed.

Couple that with a curb weight of just 2,775 pounds, and you've a great recipe for 0-60 times around three seconds or less and an estimated top speed of 225 miles per hour. Only one's been built so far, but Noble claims it has orders for a full 50. At £200,000 a pop, the M600 should make the company a pretty penny assuming it doesn't take them a decade to deliver.

Honda CRZ TS 1X

Revealed at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Salon, the Honda CR-Z TS-1X hybrid concept car is an impressive beast with its stealthy matte-black paint job and extensive aerodynamics package. The automaker’s initial press release was short on details, but, luckily, a walk-around clip has surfaced on You tube, detailing some of the innovations developed by Honda.

While nothing has changed under the bonnet, the TS-1X is said to offer improved fuel efficiency and better handling car thanks to the aerodynamic enhancements which generate more down-force and reduce drag. Other improvements include a strengthened body, sport suspension and new 4-pot caliper brakes.

The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Coupe has a secret behind its bodywork. Its engine is located at the middle. The original engine of could be somewhere because it's replaced with a twin-turbo LS V8. Producing 1,000 horsepower and 915 pound-feet of torque, this '63 Vette runs from 0-60 miles per hour in under three seconds.

This will be the car to watch as it rolls across the stage because it's one of Speed's highlighted Fantasy Bid auctions, and you can even make an estimate on what this custom mid-engine 'Vette will finally sell for.

volkswagen suv

A few more details have been revealed about the addition of new SUV to the Volkswagen family. This SUV will have seating for seven and it will carry a slimmer price tag than the Touareg. The new crossover/SUV would be built in U.S most probably at the Tennessee manufacturing facility.

The German automaker wants just to carve out a larger chunk of the American auto market. This will require vehicles that caters specifically to Yankee tastes. Volkswagen is planning to sell 800,000 vehicles by 2018. Last year the company managed to sell 256,830 vehicles.

Infiniti has shown its aptitude in delivering that experience including its rivals particularly in Europe. The first phase of this model which is called Alpha, began in 2010 which includes both computer simulations and test-drives of prototype vehicles.

Subaru

It's been a long time to produce the Toyota FT-86 RWD Coupe but we will get the first glimpse of Subaru's version at the upcoming Geneva Salon in March, which is a joint project from the two companies. The Subaru Rear Wheel Drive Sports Car Technology Concept” will share the spotlight with the Impreza Concept and the Trezio mini MPV, both of which will receive their European premiere at the Swiss motorshow.

The Subaru coupe will be powered by a boxer engine, possibly the same four-cylinder unit lent to Toyota for the FT-86. As for the company's two European premieres, the Impreza Concept was first shown in LA last November and previews a new design direction for the production model, while the Trezio is a re-badged version of the Toyota Verso-S mini MPV, which will be offered in Europe with a 1.3-liter gasoline and 1.4-liter turbo diesel engines.

BMW 760 Li

The 2011 Detroit Auto Show was more eventful for BMW than it intended. As its workers were working to load the BMW 7 Series onto a truck, a pair of thieves came in and drove off the luxury car which was worth around $140,000. The local police was not able to track the stolen car but the BMW Assist equipped in this series locates a vehicle if it's stolen and hence the car was found. The price of the BMW 7 Series would definitely be worth for its price!

2011 Kia Optima

We are big fans of the 2011 Kia Optima. Even a lot of customers would prefer the Kia Optima than the Hyundai Sonata. Even Cars.com has though this and has honored Optima as the "Best of 2011" award. This was mainly due to the fuel economy and driving experience offered in Optima.

Runners-up are the BMW 5 Series, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Volt (North American Car of the Year), Honda Odyssey and Nissan Leaf. All these vehicles are good but the Optima's strong presence within the mid-size sedan segment – the most-shopped segment in the auto industry – is a huge achievement for Kia.
